Enjoying a wholesome trip means understanding a bit more about what the island of Zanzibar looks like from north, to south. The island is small, so going from one area to the next would be between an hour and an hour and a half trip, max, through beautiful windy roads, forests and lagoons. Your trip looks a bit like this:
π Β Begin in the North in a place called Nungwi known for its gorgeous beaches and breathtaking sunset. It is also were the best diving and snorkelling happens with plenty of sand dunes and stunning small islands.where you'll find relaxing spa time and water activities;
ππΎ. Take a trip to the East in a place called Paje for quality food and Afro-house DJ parties on the beach. Paje is known as kite surfing haven, its the perfect place for active kite surfing, surfing and good old beach parties. It's a great place for adventerous souls with cultural activities like Jozani Forest and the Kuza Cave - with great food spots like The Rock, an Italian dinner spot, a unique dining experience off the shore of the ocean.
π. Polish off the trip in the West in a placed called Stone Town, the cultural center of Zanzibar. Advisable to stay only one night at the beginning of the stay or the end. Β There is plenty to do, city walk around the Old Forte, shopping, visit to the Prison Island and traditional sun downers dinners.
On my PLACES edition of Zanzibar I have highlighted 3 recommendations: Accommodation, Food and Adventure Activities
β
Accommodation π
In the East, I would recommend Joya Zanzibar and in the North, stay at Β Amaan beach bungalows and in Stone Town my ultimate favourite Upendo House
Food π€
If you are a food lovers, like myself, do not worry you are in good hands. The below are my 3 TOP FAV food and drinks spots on the island, I have to admit I probably visited some of these spots more then once.
β
1. The Rock
Located in front of Michamvi Pingwe beach on the south-east coast of the island, it has sometimes been referred to as the floating restaurant. It is a dining experience with nature and passionately prepared food.
Booking is recommended, I would opt for the 14:00 seating so you can enjoy the lunch and stroll on the beach after.
β
2. Emerson on Hurumzi and the Tea House restaurant
A beautiful and refined rooftop restaurant offers live music, along with Persian and Omani cuisine, perfect place to have a sunset dinner and enjoy the Taarab music and flavourful food.
β
3. Upendo Roof Top Bar
Perfect place to start with some yummy cocktails and mocktails, the bartender uses local spices and creates delicious drinks to your liking, my fav was the delicious mix of tamarin, lemongrass and hibiscus πΊ
β
Adventure Activities π
For water activities, there is the world of choice, from diving, snorkelling and dhow rides and sand banks in Nungwi and Kendwa. They have jet ski's and all sort of fun activities for everyone.
I would suggest 2 options to consider as they are tried and tested & Fay: Approved!
β
1. Diving with East Africa Diving
East Africa Diving - Delene is wonderful and Hamisi is the best diving instructor. Email them at: lovetodive@east-africa-diving.com
2. Day trip exploring the islands
Explore Nungwi by boat, snorkel, catch fish and have a picnic on a sandbank. This is also possible in Paje, I would recommend Captain Hassan based in Jambiani. π² +251777222347
